What's It Worth?

WorthTitle

What makes a masterpiece valuable?
1. Length of time it took to create
2. Materials it was made out of
3. Craftmanship that went in to it

Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

What truly assigns value to something?
1. Usefulness-
Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He created us answer in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

2. Sentimental Value-

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your worries and cares to God because He cares about you.

3. Joy received
Hebrew 12:2 Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and protector of our faith. For the joy set before Him, He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

4. What someone is willing to pay for it.
Matthew 13:44 Again the Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found a hid; and for joy over it, he goes and sells all the he has and buys that field. Again the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all the he had for it.

“The true way you can know you are valuable, is that Jesus paid everything He had to purchase you!”

Luke 7:11-15
Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”
Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.

Our Purpose: Every person in our city would Encounter the reality of Jesus.
We are a people that are:
Kingdom cultured, Presence centered & Relationally connected!

Created as image bearers

Genesis 1:26-28 (NLT) 26 Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like ourselves. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” 27 So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28 Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it.

Then we allowed that to be questioned.

Genesis 3:5 (NIV) "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”.

“To question that we were created to represent God will hinder us fulfilling our purpose!”

Jesus established a system
1 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV) Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.

BUT WE ARE BROKEN……
Jeremiah 2:13 "My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

John 4:6...Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well(Jacobs well). It was about the sixth hour. 7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, "Will you give me a drink?" 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, "You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?" (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water." 11 "Sir," the woman said, "you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?" 13 Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." 15 The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water so that I won't get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water." 16 He told her, "Go, call your husband and come back." 17 "I have no husband," she replied. Jesus said to her, "You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true." 19 "Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet....

Jesus…..
1. Jesus repairs what is Broken!
“Jesus wants to renew the dreams...but first he will repair the dreamer!”
“Jesus will never give what we need without giving us the means to contain it!”
Psalms 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

2. Jesus does what it takes to meet needs.

3. Jesus opens wells

John 4:28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 "Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?" 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him.…..39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony.

John 7:37-39 (NIV) 37 On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice(NLT Shouted), "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

We are Overflow- The Undivided

edge

John 7:37-43 (NIV) 37 On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. 40 On hearing his words, some of the people said, "Surely this man is the Prophet." 41 Others said, "He is the Christ." Still others asked, "How can the Christ come from Galilee? 42 Does not the Scripture say that the Christ will come from David's family and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?" 43 Thus the people were divided because of Jesus.

Feast of Tabernacles/ Sukkot

John 7:37-43 (NIV) 37 …Jesus stood and said in a loud voice(NLT Shouted), "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow rom within him."

1- Thirsty people?
2- Come & drink.

I’ve got a river of life flowing within me;
It makes the lame to walk and the blind to see.
It opens prison doors, sets the captives free.
I’ve got a river of life flowing within me
Spring up, O well, within my spirit!
Rise up and tell, so all can hear it!
Spring up, O well, and give to me
That life abundantly.

“The hope of the world is in us we simply need to open the floodgates.”

John 7: 40 On hearing his words, some of the people said, "Surely this man is the Prophet." 41 Others said, "He is the Christ." Still others asked, "How can the Christ come from Galilee? 42 Does not the Scripture say that the Christ will come from David's family and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?" 43 Thus the people were divided because of Jesus.

Acts 2:4 The were all together and in one accord.
Something extraordinary happens when people come together. You are at Overflow because we are drinking from the same well.
We are Overflow: We come under this reality of who Jesus is & We understand that we can do more together.
How do we fit together?
Connecting the pieces
1- Be Present
2- Be Planted
3- Be Passionate
4- Be proactive

5- Be purposeful
Matthew 9:35-38 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."

We are Overflow- Key Holders

edge

Matthew 16: 13-19(NLT) When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?”Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

1- We are HIS Church & He builds it.

2- He uses people

Ekklesia: The called out ones
1 Peter 2:4-5 (NLT)You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple.
LIVING STONES: The church is not simply an organization it’s an organism.

3- He gives the church the keys.

“God is in charge of the product the church is over distribution.”

Genesis 28: 12 Then he (Jacob) dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the LORD stood above it…
(16,17) Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it." And he was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!"
gate of heaven!" | Shahar(root: Shawhar) Opening of heaven a opening that was split open. Access point, A portal…a opening.

Matthew 6:9-10 (NIV) "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

This life in Christ starts with a Question

“WHO DO YOU SAY I AM!?”
The Movement starts with a Response.
Respond by taking the keys(keys are responsibility)…

We Are Overflow: The Plan

edge
THE PLAN
Our Vision is to Encounter the Reality of Jesus!
Corporately in our body & Culturally in our region.

We are a people that are:
Kingdom cultured, Presence centered & Relationally connected.

Matthew 9:17
“And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the old skins would burst from the pressure, spilling the wine and ruining the skins. New wine is stored in new wineskins so that both are preserved.”

Goals.

1. Children’s Pastor...
2. Three Houses of Prayer led by Prayer Host
3. Running 52 people by our 52nd week.
By: October 26th, 2013

Habakkuk 2:2 Then the LORD answered me and said: "Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.
The vision takes purpose, it takes power & presence, it takes a plan & IT TAKES PEOPLE!

Roles:
Gifting & Callings.
Romans 11:29
For God's gifts and his call are irrevocable.
1. Gifts and Callings are Different
2. Gifts don’t determine your destiny...
3. Gifting Provides a way for Calling

1 Corinthians 12:12-20 The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything? But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body.

We Are Overflow: The Presence

edge
THE PRESENCE
“We value the Presence of Jesus, every time we gather & everywhere we go. We believe when Jesus reveals Himself, He speaks, heals, & transforms lives.”

Worship:
1. Worship wages and wins wars:
  • The battle against darkness was initiated because of Worship...it is for worshippers and it is won through worship.
2. Worship provides a dwelling place for Gods presence.
  • 2 Samuel 7:2 "Here I am, living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent."
  • Psalm 22:3 Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.

3. Through Worship we encounter Him intimately.

Jesus is Passionate about us being presence focused.
Matthew 21:12-13 Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out all the people buying and selling animals for sacrifice. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves. He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves!”

1 Peter 2:5 And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests.

WE ARE THE DWELLING PLACE!
1 Corinthians 3:16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?

“We need to stop viewing Gods presence as a place we visit but as a reality we live in.”

“The presence of Jesus is the content of what we carry that changes the context of how life happens.”

ABIDING: A Continuos Worshipping Dwelling Place
John 15:1-17 “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. This is my command: Love each other.

Remaining & Abiding: Meno- to stay, abide, continue, dwell,, remain.…
1. Relational Obedience makes it possible.
  • vs 9 “Remain in my love. When you obey MY commandments, you remain in my love….
  • John 5:19 “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.
  • John 16:12-13 "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
  • YOU HAVE PERMISSION to function like Jesus.

2. Reveals what is hidden
  • Secrets: vs 15 I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. ...Now you are my friends…
  • Solutions: miracles, signs wonders, joy, encouragement.

3. Ruled by Love
  • Remain in my Love! ….Love each other.
  • From love: Relational obedience
  • With Love: Love one another.
“Love is the motivation of everything we do when that stopes obedience becomes laboursome and we loose pleasure.”

We Are Overflow: The People

edge

1 Peter 2:4-10 You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. As the Scriptures say, “I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him, “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.” And, “He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them. But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. “Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.”

Genesis 2:15-18 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”

At Overflow We Believe…
  1. Relationships are Gods idea.
  2. Healthy relationships are non-negotiable.
  3. The people that are in your life will lift or limit the potential in your life.
  4. God called us together
  5. People are more important than "vision."
“The vision is to serve the people if we are doing that well people will serve the vision.”

At Overflow Our People Are:
  1. Purposeful: Prioritize the kingdom intentioned &Poised for action.
  2. Passionate: Pursuant of Jesus hungry for ...presence centered.
  3. Potent: (em) powered by the Holy Spirit and positioned for signs, miracles and wonders in our life.
  4. Peculiar: Different: We are set-apart! Pure. We are more interested in Holiness than convenience, comfort….
  5. Problematic: We recognize we are imperfect, flawed…

True Things About People.
  1. People have favorites.…
  2. People enjoy life-givers
  3. People want you to value what they value.
  4. Correcting people you're not in relationship doesn't work.
  5. ...

5 Keys of Healthy of Relationships
#1 Honesty: Sincere, truthful, communication.

#2. Trust. A vulnerable confidence.
“If you live guarded not only will you never be healed you will never be the gift to this world you were designed to be!”

#3. Respect: Recognizing and embracing differences.
1 Corinthians 12:21 The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

#
4. Grace: Treating weakness with tenderness.
Philippians 2:3 Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself. 4 Each of you should be concerned not only about your own interests, but the interests of others as well. 5 You should have the same attitude toward one another that Christ Jesus had, 6 who though he existed in the form of God did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself by taking on the form of a slave, by looking like other men, and by sharing in human nature. 8 He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death --even death on a cross!

#5. Love:
1 Peter 1:22 ….You must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.
Romans 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
Ephesians 4:1-6 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all.

We Are Overflow: The Purpose

edge

WE ARE OVERFLOW. THE PURPOSE,
What is overflow? We are a church that is Part of THE Church.
Ekklēsia: The Church, The Assembly, A Gathering of the Called out ones.

What is the purpose of THE Church?
The purpose of the Church Demonstrate & Advance the Kingdom.
The Church is Gods expression of the Kingdom of God on earth through his people.”

Jesus First mentions the church…
Matthew 16:13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?" 14 They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" 16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

This conversation starts with a Question: “Who Do YOU Say I Am?”
A Question answered by a God Given Answer(Revelation) YOU ARE CHRIST
“Knowledge is for your head and Revelation for your Heart.”

On this Rock I will build my church”

Controversy of scholars: Peter the Person vs. Peters Confession(from his revelation)
1. May I submit Jesus meant neither….

1 Corinthians 3:11 No one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have- Jesus Christ.
“I will build MY church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”

2. May I submit Jesus meant neither….But Both
Petros: little, or piece of a rock. A Moveable stone or a stone that can be turned over
Peter Proved to be a moveable rock. The Kingdom is unshakable(Heb 12:28)
A piece rock but Jesus was speaking of a Bigger Rock… He was still in on it.
Peter had a Revelation, he needed a greater one to fulfill what Jesus was talking about.
It happens in Acts after Peter as An encounter with the Holy Sprit. The Launch.
“Revelation is a by product of Encounter!”

Petra: A large foundational stone.
“Jesus was saying upon This Rock... What this moment is made of “A Revelation of My Reality, of Who I am and What I am about to do…”
1 Peter 2:4-5 You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple.

“At Overflow our desire is that people would encounter the reality of Jesus.
That they would have moments like Peter and the other apostles had. We believe that when people encounter Jesus like this it not only transforms their life but in changes the world.”

“I will give you the Keys of The Kingdom....”
  • He didn’t just put you in the Kingdom. HE GAVE YOU THE KEYS!!!!

Matthew 6:9 &10 “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

“WE ARE THE KEY HOLDERS OF THE KINGDOM”

Genesis 28:11
(Jacob) came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. 12 Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: "I am the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. 14 "Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. 15 "Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you." 16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it." 17 And he was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!"
