Reality TV: Man Vs Food (With: Stephan Kilgore)

Luke 9:12-17 (NKJV) - When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted place here.” But He said to them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we go and buy food for all these people.” For there were about five thousand men. Then He said to His disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of fifty.” And they did so, and made them all sit down. Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude. So they all ate and were filled, and twelve baskets of the leftover fragments were taken up by them.

Miracles begin with obedience:
>You give them something to eat.
>Make them sit down in groups of fifty.

He blessed
>The disciples put the only sustenance they had in the hands of >Jesus. They had reasons as to why they couldn’t feed the 5,000 and instead gave Jesus the responsibility.

He broke
>Jesus broke the bread and fishes for the twelve. It doesn’t say he gave it to the 5,000.

He gave
>Jesus did not feed the people. The disciples did. Once you put your provision back in the hands of Jesus, He blesses it, but puts it back in your hands for you to see the miracle happen. Your faith in Him, mixed with the action of obedience, is what produces a miracle.

Reality TV: The Ultimate Fighter

2 Timothy 4: 6-8 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Mark 10:17-22 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good--except God alone. You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.'" "Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept since I was a boy." Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. 1 Corinthians 9:24
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air.
(NLT) So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.

Hebrews 12:2-3 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Reality TV: Survivorman

For a lot of people survival means that they are breathing and they have a heart beat. It is like they are on life support they are not really living there is just something happening to keep them out of the dead column. Not really living its more like they are existing….

Jesus came to give you a new kind of Life.(means of survival)
John 10:7-15
"I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-- just as the Father knows me and I know the Father--and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Abundant: Perissos:superabundant (in quantity) or superior; excessive- exceeding abundantly above, more abundantly, exceedingly, very highly, beyond measure...

The Bread of Life

How do we Thrive and not just survive?

Matthew 13:44 "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

Matthew 28:19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations…

Hebrews 6:7-12
When the ground soaks up the falling rain and bears a good crop for the farmer, it has God’s blessing. But if a field bears thorns and thistles, it is useless. The farmer will soon condemn that field and burn it. Dear friends, even though we are talking this way, we really don’t believe it applies to you. We are confident of better things in your case--things that accompany salvation. God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

Ephesians 2:4-10 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. Faith Works & Love Labors.

I Thessalonians 1:3
We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

James 2:14-22 What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.” You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless? Don’t you remember that our ancestor Abraham was shown to be right with God by his actions when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see, his faith and his actions worked together. His actions made his faith complete.

GLORY IN THE GRIND
1. Recognize you are Destined for Duty
Ephesians 2:10
For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

2. Keep Love at the Core.
Revelation 2:3-5
You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.

Romans 12:9-11 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.

3. Discover Rest thru Obedience:


Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed…..

1 Timothy 4:10 ...We both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…

1 Corinthians 10:31 ...Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.


Reality TV: Cover Ups (Shame)

“If the enemy cannot trap you in sin he will attempt to imprison you in shame.”

Romans 5:18 Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. 19 Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.

Shame Hides:
Genesis 3:7-9 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?"

God Covers.
Genesis 3:21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife & clothed them.
1. It was Personal.
2. It was Prophetic
3. It Was Permanent.

Walking out of shame:
Luke 5:12-16 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" And immediately the leprosy left him. Then Jesus ordered him, "Don't tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them." Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

Walk in the light of forgiveness
Jesus doesn't simply cover, Jesus cleans.
1 John 1:7-9 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

All that Jesus did trumps what you did!
YOU ARE LOVED …..YOU ARE CLEAN!

Leave it! God forgets so you can forget it.
Micah 7:19 You will again have compassion on us;  you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.

Keep gazing stop self-scrutinizing

Reality TV: My Strange Addiction

to devote or surrender (oneself) to something habitually or obsessively.

The Word speaks a lot about our minds:
  1. Matthew 22:37 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
  2. Philippians 2:5 Let this mind(mindset, attitude) be in you which was also in Christ Jesus
  3. Repentance: To Change our minds(mindset) that changes lifestyle patterns.
  4. Golgotha: the place of the Skull, the battle must be won in our minds.

Romans 8:1-11 There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit. Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

Problems with being Carnally minded.
  1. We cannot please God(v 8)
  2. Breads enmity(hostility) towards God.(v 7)
  3. A seared conscious.(Romans 1)
  4. It’s end result is sin and death.(v 6)
  5. It subdues our spirit and limits our effectiveness.

Benefits of being Spiritually minded.
  1. It frees us from condemnation(v 1)
  2. It activates true life in us(v 6)
  3. Its allows us to be at peace. (v 6)
  4. It brings God pleasure.(v 8)
  5. It allows us continual access to have the mind of heaven.

Developing Healthy thought Habits:
1. Renew your mind.
Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think(Renewing of your mind). Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

2. Nurture Your New Nature.
Philippians 4:6-8 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.

3. Captivate Carnal/Negative Thoughts.
2 Corinthians 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

Song of Solomon 2:15  Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards.

4. Admit Your true Addiction: Addicted to Gods Presence!

Ephesians 3:16-19 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!



















Reality TV: Hoarders

Ephesians 4:21-32 Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need. Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Hoarders
:
  • An Event Happens. A person hurts you, A circumstance happens.
  • So We Collect Boxes of emotion, Box’s of pain filled with images of moments. Pain, wounds, negative Circumstances, hardship be it offense….the Box’s are piling up!
  • These Boxes Take up space in our heart keeping us from living free.
  • These things are very harmful.
    • Hurt | Offense | Unforgiveness | Anger | Resentment
    • Bitterness…. hardness of heart.

Hebrews 12:14-15 Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.


PACK Away the BOXES!
Pain becomes a purpose: (paradigm)
  • Romans 5:3-4 We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.
  • Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Admit it….Don’t Deny It!
Most of us have some boxes!


Communicate tenderly.
  • “In being hurt/offended the effective way to handle things is to not be offensive but to function with tenderness.”
  • Tenderness heals, Hardness Hoards!
  • Colossians 3:12-15 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.

Kill the killers
  • When we keep people, previous circumstances, imprisoned in our mind we are the ones who are held captive & tortured by the enemy.
  • Matthew 18:21-35 Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven! “Therefore, the Kingdom of Heaven can be compared to a king who decided to bring his accounts up to date with servants who had borrowed money from him. In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him millions of dollars. He couldn’t pay, so his master ordered that he be sold—along with his wife, his children, and everything he owned—to pay the debt. “But the man fell down before his master and begged him, ‘Please, be patient with me, and I will pay it all.’ Then his master was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt. “But when the man left the king, he went to a fellow servant who owed him a few thousand dollars. He grabbed him by the throat and demanded instant payment. “His fellow servant fell down before him and begged for a little more time. ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it,’ he pleaded. But his creditor wouldn’t wait. He had the man arrested and put in prison until the debt could be paid in full. “When some of the other servants saw this, they were very upset. They went to the king and told him everything that had happened. Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’ Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured(Handed him over to the Torturers) until he had paid his entire debt. “That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.”


Deuteronomy 29:18 Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the LORD our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison.
