Together: Together

“Powerful things happen when God’s people come together."

“Following Jesus is not a prayer that we pray it’s a life that we live!”

John 17: 20-26 (NLT) "I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. "I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.  Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began! "O righteous Father, the world doesn't know you, but I do; and these disciples know you sent me. I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them."

"We fulfill the prayer of Christ when we grow in unity."
"God is glorified when we are unified."
Acts 2:42–47 (NIV) 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Answering God's prayer to unify.
1. Follow-ship
"They devoted themself to following Jesus and the teaching from the apostles."

Following Jesus alone is not a biblical concept.
They were devoted to:
  • Worshipping together
  • Getting in the word together
  • Praying Together

Matthew 18:19–20 (NLT) 19 "I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. 20 For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them."

2. Fellowship

"Breaking and bread an fellowship."
"They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts."
Koinōnia-Sharing of life.
Colossians 3:16 (NLT)  Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives…

3. Filling need
"They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need."

John 13:35 (NIV) "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
1.
  Material Needs.
2
. Immaterial Needs.

Encouragement
"The biblical standard of encouragement doesn't affirm sin, it confronts it."
  • Laughing together
  • Rejoicing(Celebrating) together
  • Mourning together
Romans 12:15 (NIV) Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

4. Functioning together.
"Many wonders and signs performed by the apostles."
Jesus wants us in on the miracles.

Matthew 14:13–21 (NIV) 13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food."
16 Jesus replied,
"They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." 17 "We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered. 18 "Bring them here to me," he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

We can only be the body of we are working together!

5.
Forward together
Luke 9:62 (NLT) Jesus told him, "Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God."
