Holy Curiosity

Holy Curiosity

Luke 18:15-17 (NLT) 15 One day some parents brought their little children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But when the disciples saw this, they scolded the parents for bothering him. 16 Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. 17 I tell you the truth: anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.

Luke 19:1-10 (NIV) 1 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man, he could not because of the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. 5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. 7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a 'sinner.'" 8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now, I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." 9 Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."

Zacchaeus
1. He is a chief tax collector
2. He is wealthy.
3. He was vertically challenged
4. He carries a curios child-likeness

A Childlikeness of Zacchaeus.
Curiosity

“Remaining curious about God is something we must maintain lest we become bored spiritually.”

Things that squelch curiosity:
  1. Making excuses
  2. Being a know it all
  3. Looking elsewhere.

"Curiosity breeds gladness."

“Joy is a necessity, not a luxury.”
Romans 14:17 (NIV) The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

“Encounters that endure are contingent on our capacity to carry joy in the journey.”

Luke 19:6 (NLT)  Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy.

Holiness that isn't joyful isn't very holy.

Cultivating Holy Curiosity
1. Position Yourself to gain a better view of Jesus.
2. Respond to His invitations.
3. Posture yourself in who Jesus calls you.
