Our Father- Perseverance

Matthew 6:9–13 (NKJV)

9 Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as
it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Perseverance
Matthew 6:13 (NKJV)  Do not lead us into temptationBut deliver us from the evil one.

"Do not lead us into temptation."
  • God does not tempt us
James 1:13–15 (NLT) 13 And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, "God is tempting me." God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. 14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death

Prayer tip: Pray "Father, keep evil far out of reach"

We will all face temptation from the evil one.

Luke 4:1–13 (NIV) 4 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. 3 The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread." 4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone.'" 5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6 And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours." 8 Jesus answered, "It is written'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'" 9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written: 'He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; 11 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'" 12 Jesus answered, "It is said: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" 13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.

The plan of the evil one
1. To reduce your identity.
  • The greatest individual crisis is an identity crisis.
  • Prayer is the place where we bury carnal desires.

2. To ruin your purpose.
  • As Followers of Christ and lovers of God, we must be informed and directed by the Lord.

1 John 2:15–16 (NLT) 15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.

3. To rebel against what God says.
  • Satan will always question and distort the word.

"But deliver us from the evil one."

God always provides a way out of sin.
1 Corinthians 10:12–13 (NLT) 12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

Walking in deliverance...
Ephesians 6:11–13 (NIV)11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

1. Remember, the battle is spiritual.
You can win a carnal battle in the spirit, but you can't win a spiritual battle in the flesh.
  • The nature you nurture is the nature that wins.

2. Appropriate Spiritual armor.
Prayer tip: appropriate your armor daily.
Ephesians 6:14–17
  • Breastplate of righteousness.
  • Belt of Truth.
  • Shoes of the gospel.
  • Shield of faith.
  • Helmet of salvation.
  • Sword of the Spirit.

3. Pray the word.
Prayer tip: Pray the word.

4. Stay near to God.
Luke 4:4(NIV) Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness

We only see defeat when we are distant.
