The Hunt: Breaking Complacency

edge

Psalm 53:2 God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God.

Matthew 13:45-46 God's kingdom is like a jewel merchant on the hunt for excellent pearls. Finding one that is flawless, he immediately sells everything and buys it.

Philippians 3:8-14 I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Complacency
1. Complacency Breeds Coldness:
Matthew 24:12
Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold.
Romans 12:11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 5:19 Do not quench the Spirit. (Do not put out the Spirit's fire.)

2. Coldness opens the door for compromise.
Revelation 2:4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love.
Revelation 3:15-17 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

Shaking Complacency:
1. Recognize it, Repent from it, Reject is & Refuse it!
2. Commit to Growth.
3. Tenderness of Heart.
James 4:7-10 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.
“Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less.” -C.S. Lewis

4. Fear The Lord.
Healthy Fear of the Lord doesn't hinder our confidence to approach him but it breaks the comfort in our knowledge & revelation of him.
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

“Not a fear to be with God a fear to be Away from him” -John Bevere

Exodus 33:11-18 Inside the Tent of Meeting, the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Afterward Moses would return to the camp, but the young man who assisted him, Joshua son of Nun, would remain behind in the Tent of Meeting. Moses said to the LORD, "You have been telling me, 'Lead these people,' but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, 'I know you by name and you have found favor with me.' If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people."  The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?"  And the LORD said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name."  Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory."

5. Become a Student of His endless affections
Psalm 139:17-18
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!
