Heirs With Christ

Romans 8:12-17
12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

  1. The Spirit Brings Life

A. An Alternate Covenant
-A deal was made with the Devil.

B. The alternate covenant is revoked only by the Spirit
-The flesh is birthed by pride and arrogance, it dies only by surrender and
humility.
-Under the covenant of life we grow by Grace and Peace
-From Glory to Glory

II. The Spirit Confirms Our Identity

A. Identity Of Favor
-Favor is not based on our performance, it’s based on the truth that Jesus is in the Father and He is in us

-Favor is not an absence of hardship and struggle, rather it allows us to grow in hardship.

B. Identity of Freedom
-Freedom from fear, from the law, from sin

C. Identity as Family

III. The Spirit Is Our Inheritance
-Because the Spirit lives in us every affection and desire Our Father has for Jesus, he also has for us

-Our inheritance was secured for us by the suffering of Jesus, it’s received in its fullness as we suffer
